YAMAMOTOYAMA SINCE 1690

NIHONBASHI, TOKYO, SINCE 1690 山本山
About Us

Since 1690,
Continuing Our Story

  1. In 1690, Kahei Yamamoto I moved from
the pinnacle tea region of Uji, Kyoto
to the new capital of Edo, the Nihonbashi
area of modern-day Tokyo. He founded
a little tea shop, and from there
    the story of Yamamotoyama begins.
“A dream of introducing the wonders of Uji tea”

Kahei Yamamoto I passed his dreams
    onto his children and grandchildren,
as Kahei Yamamoto IV introduced steamed
green tea, or sencha, to the world,
and Kahei Yamamoto VI invented the absolute
finest shaded sencha and called it gyokuro.

  2. Today, Kahei Yamamoto IX invites you
to enjoy the first harvest twice per year
with the first flush of tea in the spring and
the first crop of nori seaweed in the winter.

For over 300 years, Yamamotoyama has
cherished the dream of its founder.

The Yamamoto family’s sincere purpose is
to share delicious and healthy green tea
and nori seaweed with people around the world.
